Actual Easter Fun

So, last minute we invited some friends over to share Easter "dinner" with us.  I of course had visions of a ham, glazed carrots, scalloped potatoes and rolls shaped as little bunnies.  But no hams were to be found (and Grace quickly opposed me buying a big salmon).  And I kind of forgot about the rolls.  And we had a churrasco (barbecue) instead, so we did potatoes on the grill.  But it was a meal, we had food, we had friends, we had a great time.

We got home a little late from church because Jamison has to trade his World Cup stickers at church with the little kids.  (ha ha, Jamison, we all know this is more than just a sticker collection.  One of his coworkers just finished his book of all the teams in the World Cup and a cost of R$250 about $100.) Anyway we got home a little late and had to enlist the kids help in cleaning up since we were all too tired to do it last night.

They all did a phenomenal job.  We set a timer and do as much as we can in 5 minutes per room.  And since we have 8 rooms that turns out to be about 40 minutes of cleaning.  That seems like a lot but when you break it up to only 5 minutes on the timer with 7 people helping we can get a lot done fast.

It was hard too since they came in and saw there big chocolate eggs on the mantel.  Each with a toy in it.  "When the work is done, you can have your fun."  And they did great.  And they loved their little Easter presents.

Of course they had to tell me the real story of Easter before we got out of the car to come inside the house.  (Just for historical reference, Grace: Monsters Inc, Oliver Nerf, Abby Hello Kitty, Felix Cars and Miles Batman)

I am still amazed at the great cleaning job they did!  Wow.

Again we had a lovely meal that lead into an Easter egg hunt.  Our friends have a son in his 20's and a daughter that is 16.  They had a great time filling the eggs (the dad of family putting in a clove of garlic for a "special" treat.)  Then they went out to our park and hid them.  And sent me a text when they were done.  Poor Abby hasn't been feeling well.  A headache for a couple of days and mosquito bite on her eye that made it swell up.  And today a little fever.  So we pushed her to the park in the bike trailer and told her we would find her some eggs.  But once she was there she was suddenly cured and ran around with the rest of the kids.

Grace had to get past a big spider web to get this egg!  Think of the poor person who had to put it there!

They had a great time finding the eggs hidden among all theses tropical plants.  It was super fun to watch.  We will sure miss our friends the Cahills.  They will move back home to Detroit this summer.

After the awesome hunt, we came back and dyed some Easter eggs.  We didn't have any of those fancy kits, so we just made some dye with vinegar and food coloring.  It turned out great.  Unfortunately only about half of the dozen eggs I hard-boiled work since I forgot about them on the stove and really overcooked them.  Oh well, we can do some more tomorrow.
