Itatiba Zoo

About is a lovely 1:15 drive from Sao Jose is Itatiba Zoo. We had such an enjoyable time.

It was quite hilly, but such a lovely zoo. There is a gravel path that winds through the enclosures. It felt like a nice walk through the Mata Atlantic rainforest. We used our bike stroller and managed fine there are a few stairs and at the end more but you can take a different path.

There were fantastic birds, toucans, hornbills, parrots, parakeets, eagles, vultures falcons. They had monkeys, tapirs, a tiger, an ocelot, rhinos, elephants, iguanas. I had never seen a live anteater before or the three-toed sloth. The also had a building with baby birds in warm boxes and reptiles.

Outside the park entrance is a great park with a giant snake to play on and slide down. They have one of the small zip lines with a seat. They had the waterballs you can get inside of. And they have horses you can ride (weekends and holidays only). The price of parking R$10 is well worth even just a visit to the playground. There is also a beautiful by the kilo restaurant with a great view, but that was closed so we had a nice meal of fries and burgers.
